The One Thing Republicans Won’t Listen ToDuring a press conference in January of 2007, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow declared that “the President has invited all points of view” on the war in Iraq. For those of us who have opposed the Iraq War from the start, this statement is a startling one. You see, there’s one point of view on the Iraq War that George W. Bush never invited or accepted: The point of view that the war in Iraq is unnecessary and should be stopped as soon possible. The United States needs a President who is at least willing to consider the point of view of peace. That’s reason number 98 out of our growing list of 2008 reasons that we need to elect a progressive President. Reason 98 puts Irregular Times at 4.9 percent of our goal of writing down 2008 reasons to elect a progressive President in 2008 before the end of the day on December 31, 2007. We have promised that, if we aren’t able to complete this list, we’ll donate $2,008.00 to every Republican candidate out there. That’s something we very much don’t want to do, so now that we have less than a year to meet our goal, watch for us to pick up the pace. |
