Peace Through Strength?
Republican Presidential Candidate Duncan Hunter is running on the basis of his ties with companies that profit from war and military buildup - companies like Titan Corporation. So, Representative Hunter has established a political action committee entitled Peace Through Strength.
The idea of peace through strength is that only by having an immense military and by waging wars all around the world can we gain peace. The peace part comes later on, after a whole bunch of wars, through which anyone who might stand up to the United States of America learns that resistance is futile.
Peace through strength is as ridiculous an idea as establishing marital fidelity through sexual affairs. For a moment, however, let’s assume that the basic idea of peace throgh strength is not ridiculous. Let us suppose that, in theory, peace through strength makes lots and lots of sense.
There’s still a problem with the way that Republicans like Duncan Hunter promote an agenda of peace through strength. They aren’t strong.
Just take a look at what’s going on over in Iraq. Consider, for that matter, the mess of Afghanistan. Is that what Duncan Hunter thinks strength looks like?
If you go to war with the ideology of peace through strength, and then aren’t able actually be strong in war, then you have neither peace nor strength. You have havoc through ineptitude.
The policy of havoc through ineptitude is what Duncan Hunter wants to continue. I think that there’s a better policy. It’s called peace through peace.
Go Green! Go Yellow! Go Obama! Barack Obama for President of the United States in 2012.
Wake up every morning to the pride of standing out from the crowd. You say no to the Republican elite who say they own Alabama. Let this coffee mug do the talking for you. You're an Alabama Democrat
West Virginia is experiencing a groundswell of liberal idealism now, as a result of corrupt right wing politicians who have abused our state. Show where you stand with a West Virginia liberal magnet
In the 2012 presidential election, Vermont voters support Barack Obama because the time has come for America to step forward into a new day of liberty and equality, not backwards into past conflicts.

Progressives in Ohio have seen the worst of the conservative agenda, as the right wing attacks freedom, knowledge and peace. The tide is turning, so more and more Ohio votes progressive.
