Protesters Arrested. Torturers Walk Free.Two actions in Washington D.C. on Friday showed the sadistic and corrupt new civic values of the United States of America. In the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Circuit Judge Karen Lecraft Henderson declared that four British citizens who had been seized by the United States government and thrown into a prison for years, and tortured without any trial or criminal charges ever made against them, could not file suit against the U.S. government. Judge Henderson declared that the British citizens not persons, and also wrote that torture is to be expected. "Torture is a foreseeable consequence of the military's detention of suspected enemy combatants," Judge Henderson wrote. The British citizens were never convicted of doing anything wrong. They were merely under suspicion. Yet, their imprisonment and torture was just fine, according to Judge Karen Lecraft Henderson. If her ruling stands, then the American government will have the power to keep people in prison and torture them, without any trial, merely because the people are suspected by the government of having done something wrong. The people who tortured those British citizens walk free out on the streets. The same can't be said for 80 people who protested against torture and imprisonment without trial on Friday. They were arrested for doing nothing more than taking part in a political demonstration at the Supreme Court. That's how life is in the new Homeland Security States of America: People are thrown behind bars for engaging in political demonstrations, but those who torture prisoners are given special government protection, and walk free. |
