Group That Attacks Obama Also Attacks the American Flag

April 22nd, 2008 · 8 Comments

A great fuss was made during the embarrassingly superficial ABC News presidential debate of April, 2008 about the fact that Barack Obama wears an American flag lapel pin some days, but not absolutely every day.

Now, Republicans have an American flag scandal of their own.

It seems that Republican activists have been busy sending around emails filled with nasty unsubstatiated rumors about Barack Obama, claiming that he is a secret Muslim spy for Al Qaeda who will fulfill the terrorist September 11 project if elected President. It’s obvious poppycock to anyone with a working brain… but the trouble is that plenty of voters seem to have let their brains get kind of flabby these days. It’s surprising the number of people who accept these emails at face value.

The emails cite a married pair of missionaries who claim to have gone to Kenya and talked to people there to find the deep dark secrets about Barack Obama and his secret squad of African Muslim evildoers. The names of the missionaries are Celeste and Loren Davis.

Celeste and Loren Davis seem to be very busy little bees. They don’t just hate Barack Obama. They hate the American flag too. In a document that Loren Davis later tried to destroy, but was salvaged and saved as a PDF, Loren Davis claims that the common symbol of the 5 pointed star is, in fact, a symbol used by people who worship the Devil.

Think for a minute, and you’ll realize that you know one political symbol that is chock full of five pointed stars: The American flag. Yes, Loren Davis actually argues that the American flag is an evil symbol of a satanic plot to destroy Christianity.

So, Republicans have been promoting the agenda of a man who hates the American flag. According to the Republicans’ own simplistic view of patriotism, that makes Republicans shockingly unpatriotic.

Of course, Republicans do tend to have a very shallow understanding of what patriotism really means. Patriotism is about much more than just waving the flag, or putting a little lapel pin in your jacket.

We progressives understand that someone can wear a lapel pin of the American flag, and wave the flag around a lot, and still betray the principles of liberty, equality and justice that the flag is supposed to represent.

That said, Loren Davis and his idea that the American flag is somehow a tool for demonic forces from Hell is quite insane - and another good reminder of the wisdom America’s founding fathers had in separating church and state.

Whomever these people are should be sent to Iraq or another country who does not believe in the American flad or in America. Or they should be percuted and hanged as terrorist.

No, Alwilda. It’s their freedom to be idiots and claim that the American flag is a symbol of Satan. The great thing about America is that idiots like Loren Davis are free to be idiots and say stupid things.

The minute our government starts to ban idiocy, they will label intelligent political dissent as idiocy. Let’s not limit freedom of speech.

However John McCain should come out and condemn Celeste and Loren Davis. Why hasn’t he done that?

Does John McCain agree with Loren Davis that the American flag is a symbol of Satan?

Calling yourselves “progressive” is not only arrogant but misleading. While I do not espouse the teachings of the Davises, this representation is much more extremely representative of their teachings as their teachings are of Obama’s involvement In Kenyan politics. You have no credibility except among yourselves, therefore, you are a waste.

Ah hah. Someone who links to Fox News from their name tells us WE are not progressive? Got it. Thanks for the tip, Bill.

Do you repudiate the attacks against the American flag by John McCain’s supporters then, Bill?

As one who comes from a democrat family, I, like most of the others, will likely never vote that way again. We are just as passionate about our beliefs as you. “Progressive” usually means (no difference in your case) that any term can be reinterpreted to mean whatever you would like it to mean. One cannot say they support the troops while giving aid and comfort to their enemy. It is a good indicator regarding the status of the “Progressive” Democrat, when we look at who is most often quoted, in agreement, by Osama and his murdering cohorts. As for Obama, he has proven to be quite the “2 Stepper.” I found this site while investigating the Email in question. I was a bit skeptical even then. I see no further evidence to change that.
It is indicative of your hatred of the Judeo-Christian Faith that you also inaccurately speak of “Separation of Church and State.” The Constitution was founded on a Biblical basis, and the term was first used by Thomas Jefferson in while speaking to a church. The intention was, he said, to keep the politics out of religion…not religion out of politics. Christianity has proven Himself to me. The Democrats have spent years attacking every Biblical principal. They cry crocodile tears over “the poor,” yet the number of millionaire politicians and donors is a bit heavier in the Democrat column. Christians give 2 to 1 more than the secular church in charity. Check the the statistics.

You know, Roger, when I was in church this Sunday, the man at the pulpit talked about what a great blessing Separation of Church and State has been for religion in America.

It’s too bad that your vision of religion must be so small as to believe that, unless it is established and taken care of by nanny government, religion will wither away.

Your vision is consistently dismal. Do YOU believe the Loren Davis nonsense about the American flag being satanic?

I too was led to this site by my curiosity to verify the email attributed to the Davises. I won’t try to identify myself as a progressive or otherwise. But I do personally identify with the following statement
    ———————————————————
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America,’ for an amount of ‘up to and including, Their life.’
That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

Having this perspective has assuredly made me more independent in my political ways. In that position, I accept there to be ‘evil’ people in the world. Evil behavior also includes many American actions. What I do not accept is ignoring the evil intent of others toward me or my family, while I attempt to take responsibility for an evil doing of my own. I will not feel guilty for the actions of my predecessors… I can only tell those who would do me harm that those prior actions are not me, today.

Also, I will protect me and mine, up to and including a preemptive strike, while I act to change any evil behaviors me and mine are responsible for.

I will not ignore anyone that is acting or even posturing themselves as a threat to the U.S.A. For had it not been for the blessings availed to me as a natural citizen of the U.S.A. - irrespective of the evil blood and stains created by my forefathers - I may not have been able to raise my children and grand-children in FREEDOM.
