150 Reasons to Elect a Progressive President Reached
As of this afternoon, we have reached the mark of 150 reasons to elect a progressive President in 2008. We’re at 152, to be exact.
This is a good time, as a kind of rough assessment of the focus of the reasons to vote progressive in 2008, to see what areas of progressive thought we have been emphasizing in the compilation of the list so far. Here are the reasons, as broken down by category:
Environment: 26 reasons
We have written these 151 reasons to elect a progressive President in 2008 not with a predetermined outline, but spontaneously, as inspiration comes to us. So, this set of reasons reflects a general sort of sample of what’s been on our minds here at Irregular Times when it comes to defining the progressive identity.
Notice that the two most dominant specific progressive issues, as we see it, are the environment and peace. The project of defining values has been an important focus for progressive activists lately, motivated by the culture war that right wing activists have waged against traditional progressive values like liberty, equality, justice, and sustainability.
As we continue our long, slow march up toward 2,008 different reasons to elect a progressive President this year, and issues in the news develop, the focus of this project may well change. Stay tuned.
